Now it’s finally time for my first regular blog post and I cannot miss the chance to share with you some of the key tips and bits of advice I learned throughout my sports betting adventures. Of course, this is neither a post on what’s the best way to predict the game results nor a recipe on how to ‘get’ lucky. There is simply no such thing as developing a winning sports betting strategy. Check out these tips & tricks, however! For completeness and easier orientation, I’ll subdivide them in two – for the newbie UK punters and for more serious gamblers, respectively grouped in basic and advanced tips.
Basic tip #1: Always consider how much money you can win from the bookmakers. Making bets just for fun or only because you bet on your favourite game is not enough. Of course, sports betting must be fun all the time, but the excitement is greater when you bet £10, £15 or £20 at 35/1 odds or more, and you win.
Basic tip #2: Go for the main and simple bets. This is a great way to start exploring the interface of the sports betting sites, as well as how much to wager and how to calculate the total amount of your bets. The basic bets will also help you to get an imaginary view of how the combination of odds and stakes contributes for each bet.
Basic tip #3: Bet only on the sports you follow and which result you believe you could predict. These are usually your most favourite sports and the good thing is that the English sports betting market is quite developed. You can bet on just about everything from the World Cup to snooker and UK motorsports.
Advanced tip #1: Put the highest of your bets on the biggest sports events that take or are about to take place very shortly, usually in hours. Take a pick of the biggest events that are popular worldwide, such as The Ryder Cup that is a major golf tournament from 28 to 30 September this year. Only in this way, you can take full advantage of a much wider range of possible bets. Varieties include ’Points Match-Ups’, ‘Top European Wild Card’, etc. And the bets usually go high. Really wild!
Advanced tip #2: Follow the new trends and always be on top. For example, bet on American football! There are rumours that it will become a great opportunity for UK bookies and punters, too. Another common trend is the recent interest in world-renowned brands to promote their products not just by sport, but also via sports betting.
Advanced tip #3: Make a chart for the odds of your past bets. Also, I would suggest including both ways of displaying the odds. When you have them in decimal and in fraction, you could easily see how they turned out and what is the type of your most winning bets. That’s the key to become able to spot value and therefore to organize your bets more reasonably.
There you have it – a list with 3 of my top tips and tricks for both pro and newbie punters. Share this post if you like it and stay tuned for more!
